CVHA Coaching Criteria
House League Coaching Qualification/Requirements
House League Coaches and Assistant Coaches shall be appointed by the House League VP’s and become registered with Hockey Canada by the CVHA Office. This will ensure qualifications are met and all team officials are properly insured.
All candidates MUST fill out the CVHA House League Coaching Application form. No coach will be considered without the appropriate forms in place.
Head Coaches must obtain and supply to the CVHA office prior to the start of the season:
- Coaching Certification*
- Speak Out certificate.**
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)***
Assistant Coaches and all other helping on the bench or on-ice privilege must obtain and supply to the CVHA office prior to the start of the season:
- Speak Out certificate.**
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)***
***All coaches, Assistant Coaches, Trainers, and Managers will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Screening(VSS) during their first year with the CVHA-House League and every two years thereafter, for as long as they continue to volunteer with the CVHA-House League.
Sponsoring a team WILL NOT automatically guarantee a coaching position or a choice of bench staff or players other than the Sponsors child.
Course Description:
*CBET - Coach Stream for House League Coaching
Hockey Canada's Coach Stream is the certification required by the CVHA for all House League Coaches to be on the hockey bench. This is an 11 hour course that includes:
- Supporting the athlete through communication
- Teaching skills and progressions in the training environment
- Designing and delivering practices
- The game environment and game day preparations
**Speak Out Harassment & Abuse
- All coaching staff are required by Hockey Canada/CVHA to take this certification. This 3.5 hour course will help with the lifelong skills in communication and interacting with all participants especially players in the hockey environment.
Vaughan Rangers Coach Qualification and Selection
Vaughan Rangers Head Coach shall be appointed by the Vaughan Rangers GM and become registered with Hockey Canada through the CVHA Office. This will ensure qualifications are met and all team officials are properly insured.
All candidates MUST fill out a Vaughan Rangers Coaching Application. No coach will be considered without the appropriate forms in place.
****All carded/rostered team officials will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Screening(VSS) will be subject to a Vulnerable Sector Screening(VSS) during their first year with the CVHA-Vaughan Rangers and every two years thereafter, for as long as they continue to volunteer with the CVHA-Vaughan Rangers.

Course Description:
* CBET - Development 1 for 'A', 'AA' & 'AAA' Coaching 2011-12
The Greater Toronto Hockey League's Development 1 (Revised Intermediate Level) is the certification required by Vaughan Rangers for all Select, 'A', 'AA' & 'AAA' hockey coaches to be on the bench. This is a 16.5 hour course that includes:
- Team building with athletes
- Teaching Hockey Skills and Progressions
- Designing a Seasonal Plan with Practices
- Goaltending
- Offensive and Defensive, Individual and Team Tactics
- Transition from game to practice
- 4 hours on ice with coaches designing and delivering sessions
**Speak Out
- All coaching staff are required by Hockey Canada/CVHA to take this certification. This 3.5 hour course will help with the lifelong skills in communication and interacting with all participants especially players in the hockey environment.
***HTCP – Level 1
The HTCP Level I program is the introductory level of the program which introduces the participant to the principles of injury and risk management.
